Training Managers and Leaders is the Key to Changing Culture

Having a great business culture inspires people to follow the direction set by management. If your business is experiencing lower performance than you'd like, then an organisational culture reset may be required. Training at all levels is a positive way to engage employees; however it doesn't automatically 'fix' what you might want to strengthen in your company culture.

In this article, we will discuss business culture, why it's important and reveal the key to resetting your business culture. We'll also examine how to implement a successful training program.

Business culture, simply put is the values, beliefs, and behaviours shared by members of a particular organisation. Here’s Herb Kelleher's definition of culture: “Culture is what people do when no one is looking.” Training managers and leaders is the key to changing the culture of a company. Here’s why:

It creates alignment

Training helps managers and leaders understand the business and its goals better. In turn, this can create a unified and cohesive direction for the company -fostering an environment where everyone is working towards the same goals, which leads to a better business culture and outcomes.

Clear expectations can be set

Employees know what is expected of them in terms of performance, attitude, and behaviour, which creates a more constructive and productive work environment. A clear set of expectations also helps build an understanding of acceptable behaviour, which can help reduce tension and conflict among team members.

Collaboration is encouraged

When managers and leaders are trained in how to create a successful business culture, they can learn how to foster collaboration and teamwork. This sows the seeds for a culture of unity and trust, which can lead to increased productivity and better results. It also helps create a sense of pride to aid employee morale.

Implementing a training programme

Once you have identified the problem and assessed the current training program, it's time to create a new training program. The program should be tailored to the specific needs of the managers and team leaders and focus on the root causes of the problem. Do your leaders have everything they need to be successful in their role?

Ensuring everyone has received the training creates consistency.  If you are looking to create a successful business culture, invest in training your managers and leaders. APSCo has several training courses and programmes designed for team leaders and managers.
