Tania Bowers, Global Public Policy Director, APSCo Global
Many of our international members will be impacted by the eventual implementation of the EU Platform Workers Directive into national EU laws and it may serve as a template for any future Labour government. With this in mind, APSCo Global are keen to influence the debate in Brussels.
In Germany, the government has, until now, stood back from recent EU led debate on presumed employment for these workers, and the criteria that rebuts the presumption. However, at some stage they will need to take a view and we know there is economic pressure to keep the German labour market flexible.
What might not be understood is how critical online platforms are to the recruitment industry and users of freelance workers. We are working internationally to consider recommendations to be proposed by APSCo Deutschland to German Ministers.
For our first meeting we are delighted to announce that the chair of our German Public Policy Representative Group, Magdalena Polzin, Chief Legal Officer at Westhouse Group, will summarise the EU Platform directive and the potential impact on the industry leading to a discussion on the key points and next steps for us.
